THIS MONTH’S SUBJECT
Your guests are not all the same
Demographic segmentation no longer explains much about booking behaviour. What sets your guests apart is their relationship with risk, their tolerance for effort, and what they need to validate before paying.
Drawing on data from 82 respondents, combined with data from the sector, the survey conducted by our Product Team among hotel guests reveals 4 archetypes of hotel bookers.
The 4 Archetypes of the Digital Booker
Discover the 4 key profiles of visitors booking their next stay on your website:
👤 – Who they are
🔍 – What they are looking for
ℹ️ – What to provide them with to meet their needs

Key Insights at a glance:
* The journey is universal, the profile isn't: Almost all travellers start their search on an OTA or Google Maps (72%) before reaching the hotel's website. The direct site isn't there to convince; it's there to confirm a choice that's already made
* The same person shifts archetype depending on context: A traveller can be one profile for a business trip and another for a family holiday; the archetype depends on the trip, not the person
* The conversion window is very narrow: Once on the booking engine, every point of friction (missing info, a long journey, a questionable technical signal) sends the guest back to the OTA they already trust
* An explicit direct-booking advantage makes a real difference: Clearly displaying a price discount triples conversions
* Each archetype has a different conversion trigger: Either speed, reassurance, aesthetics, or information density; a single, generic booking engine can't satisfy all four at once
