Date and time: 28 July 2026 | 11:00 - 12:15 BST
Dr Jimmy Volmink, Executive Director of Equity at Wellcome, will open this webinar by highlighting the importance of carefully crafting climate and health messages that effectively engage the public and build support for climate action.
The webinar will present findings from a large randomised controlled trial involving over 30,000 participants across Brazil, India, Japan, and South Africa. The study found that health-framed climate messages are twice as effective as non-health climate messages in increasing support for climate policies. Speakers will discuss the study's design, key findings, and implications for climate and health communication, offering practical lessons for researchers, communicators, policymakers, and advocates seeking to build public support for action in a warming world.
Speakers: Dr Jimmy Volmink (Wellcome); Dustin Gilbreath (Climate Opinion Research Exchange, CORE); Jorge Coelho de Jesus (Global Strategic Communications Council); Neha Dewan (Wellcome); chaired by Alun Davies (The Global Health Network – Mesh).

Why Ebola survivors belong at the decision-making table
Date and time: 22 July 2026 | 10:30 - 12:00 (BST)
Recognising survivor expertise could improve preparedness, response and recovery.
The trajectory of Ebola disease outbreaks has long been shaped by the actions and engagement of affected communities. It is time for response systems to recognise that survivors are not only beneficiaries of care or symbols of hope, they are also knowledge holders, trust builders, and essential partners in preparedness, response, and recovery. Findings from interviews with Ebola disease survivors in Uganda and Liberia illustrate how Ebola disease survivors often become informal counsellors, advocates, and trusted community figures. By sharing their experiences, they help to reduce fear, stigma, and misconceptions about Ebola treatment units care, encouraging care-seeking. Survivors are “experiential experts” whose lived experiences can complement clinical and public health expertise, while ensuring participation remains voluntary, ethical, and supported.
Social Scientists, Katherina Thomas and Barthalomew Wilson (PREVAIL, Liberia) will lead this webinar presenting findings from interviews with Ebola disease survivors from Uganda and Liberia across past outbreaks, and welcoming discussions.
